Project Description

Manuscript guidebook of Paris by Nicole Allardet, n.d. (c. 1940’s or 50’s?). Folded booklet on heavy paper, folds out to 19-1-2″ x 17″ divided into 12 panels. T. Each panel (except for 2) is decorated on both sides with a gouache vignette of a Parisienne landmark including the Jardin du Luxembourg, Opera House, Eiffel Tower, the Seine River, the Bois de Vincienne, Notre Dame, Jardin des Tuileries, Champs Elysees, Montmartre and the Obelisque. A map showing the landmarks is drawn in the centre of the pamphlet and each vignette has a brief accompanying text in a neat hand describing the landmark. The pamphlet is inscribed to Vivienne Horne. Neither names result in any further biographical information, and one can only assume that Allardet, was an amateur albeit accomplished artist. A charming piece of travel ephemera.
