While working at a Toronto auction house, Megan Webster was tasked with cataloguing an antique map collection. Her work sparked a profound interest in old maps appreciating both the artistic beauty and historical significance. In 1999 Megan founded Webster’s Fine Books & Maps to make antique maps accessible and affordable for collectors.
Webster’s Fine Books & Maps offers original antique maps and books, no reproductions. All products are guaranteed as described. We value transparency and integrity, reflected in the quality of our material, appraisals, and personal customer service.
We are members of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of Canada (ABAC) and International League of Booksellers (ILAB) in good standing, for over 20 years. With our expertise, we can help advise and source material for the novice collectors to the seasoned bibliophiles.
Owning a Piece of History
Some maps make a lasting impression and remind us of fascinating time periods. One of Megan’s favourite maps is this copper-engraved print showcasing an early view of Halifax Harbour. Designed in 1750 by Moses Harris, the map is engraved with native flora, insects and a porcupine. Like this print, every antique map has clever characteristics to discover, from decorative details to cartographic techniques.
