Description

“Flanders Or The Spanish Netherlands With Ye Archbishoprick Of Cambresis And Bishoprick Of Lyege”.  Published in Thomas Salmon’s “Modern History: or the Present State of All Nations” London, c. 1745.  A very good map of Flanders (Belgium) and part of France. Flanders was referred to as the Spanish Netherlands as the Spanish held control over the area (mostly Belgium and Luxembourg but also parts of Northern France and Western Germany) from about the 1580’s to about 1714. As this map originated c. 1711, but used in a later publication, the area was still called the Spanish Netherlands at the time of the original publication of the map. The map shows cities, towns, Archbishoprics, Bishoprics and universities.

Map Condition: Staining to right margin and lower left margin, a couple of splits light creases to left margin, else very good  Map Type: Copperplate engraved map with hand colouring
