Description

“Glottiana Praefectura Superior the Upper Ward of Clyds-Dayl”. Incredibly detailed map showing towns, topographical features and two mines. The northern boundary is formed by the River Kelvin, with Kirkintilloch depicted. The slightly ragged eastern boundary runs broadly south southeast, skirting to the east of Caldercruix and on to Dunsyre Hill and finally Dolphinton. The southern boundary encloses the headwaters of the River Clyde at Queensberry hill, between Moffat and Thornhill. Published in Blaeu’s “theatrum Orbis Terrarum Sive Atlas Novus. Pars Quinta”. Skelton. County Atlases of the British Isles 1579-1703. p. 107 Map #26. Dutch text verso.
Map Condition: Evenly toned with centrefold a little lighter, still a pleasing map. Map Type: Copper engraved map hand coloured in outline.
